A century ago a monastic community lived in the castle. The living room used to be their candle manufactory. The chandler in the living room is a reminder of this craft. The Candle Manufactory is on the ground floor, close to the restaurant. Therefore it has easy access for groups with disabled guests among them.
The Candle Manufactory has a little private terrace overlooking the waters. While daydreaming in the sun you can see carps swimming. You just have to close your eyes to imagine you're hundred years back in history. On the other side of the moat you can see the ruins of the medieval wall of "het Hofje" (The little garden): this used to be the vegetable garden of the castle. Later two glasshouses were built so that the people in the kitchen could already profit from the sun in early spring or even in autumn and winter. Nowadays one of the glasshouses is used to store the biomass heating system.
